Our systems are designed to be mounted indoors at a wall near your electric dryer or another 240 Volt user.
Please select a location with easy access and within reach of the wall outlet.
- Unplug your primary user (for example electric dryer) from the wall outlet.
- Plug the primary user's power cord into the Ôber-EV box’ primary receptacle.
- Plug the Box’s power cord into the wall outlet.
Connect your own EVSE into the “CAR” receptacle of the ÖberSWITCHER or plug the ÖberCHARGER's J-1772 charging connector of an into your car at any time. Your car determines when it is time to charge.
If the primary user is operating at the same time in HIGH-power mode, charging the car is automatically paused until the primary user is in LOW-power mode or OFF again.
Now, it will only take 3-4 hours to charge your car with an Öber-EV system
instead of 16+ hours with the car-supplied Level-1 charger.
Please use the supplied mounting anchors to secure your Öber box properly.
how it works
The cornerstone of Öber-EV technology is a proprietary, patent-pending circuitry that constantly monitors the flow of power to the “primary” user, for example your electric laundry dryer. As long as this primary flow is low, your EV can be charged at its maximum rate.
However, when the primary user power demand is HIGH, for example when dryer heater is “ON”, charging the car simultaneously could overload the circuit breakers. Therefore, Öber-EV temporarily cuts power to the car until the primary power use is LOW again.
During a typical drying cycle the heater is “ON” only 50% of the time. The remaining time the dryer used little power to tumble the laundry.
Typically it takes just 30 – 45 minutes longer to charge the car while drying laundry. The car automatically resumes charging whenever the dryer heater is in low power mode or OFF. This leaves plenty of time to fully charge your car over night while doing several loads of laundry. This works equally well if you use another 240-Volt outlet in the garage or shop where the primary load is only ON occasionally but you don't want to disconnect it whenever the car needs charging.
ÖberCHARGER also contains a built-in hardware ground fault current interruptor (GFCI), providing superior user and equipment protection compared to other EVSE.
The primary user could also be another EV, connected to the primary outlet of the ÖberSWITCHER or ÖberCHARGER. The ¨”Öber” system automatically switches to the secondary outlet when the demand on the primary outlet is low. Thus you can charge two EV sequentially without manual interaction.
